In her latest New York Times op-ed entitled "Who’s That Candidate in the Teal Toenail Polish?" (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/04/opinion/sunday/dowd-whos-that-candidate-in-the-teal-toenail-polish.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0), Maureen Dowd tells us a bit about New York mayoral candidate Christine Quinn. Dowd significantly concludes:
"I tell her she was the first candidate I’d ever seen on the trail wearing teal toenail polish.
'It matches my campaign literature, that’s the point of it!' she said excitedly, pulling two bottles out of her bag. 'It’s the color of the blue on my posters so I’m trying to wear it all summer long.'"
I wonder if it also helps her hide in cabbage patches.
Yup, this is the same Christine Quinn who donned a a hoodie and declared that George Zimmerman was a criminal, prior to the jury verdict that acquitted him (see: http://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/blinded-hoodie-article-1.1399158).
As noted in a March New York Times article entitled "Offstage, Quinn Isn’t Afraid to Let Fury Fly" (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/26/nyregion/in-private-quinn-displays-a-volatile-side.html?pagewanted=all) by Michael M. Grynbaum and David W. Chen:
"As she pursues a high-profile bid for mayor, Ms. Quinn, a Democrat, has proudly promoted her boisterous personality, hoping that voters will embrace her blend of brashness and personal charm.
But in private, friends and colleagues say, another Ms. Quinn can emerge: controlling, temperamental and surprisingly volatile, with a habit of hair-trigger eruptions of unchecked, face-to-face wrath."
Friends have gone on record as saying that she experiences "hair-trigger eruptions of unchecked, face-to-face wrath? Christine must have some remarkable chums.
Be it Christine Quinn or Anthony Weiner, New York is going to get just what it deserves.

ReplyDelete1) A Weiner's (shrinking) base is lower income African-Americans, one of the smaller voting blocs in NYC. The fight for the run-off with Quinn is between the two Bills: de Blasio and Thompson.
2) Quinn is going for women voters to try to avoid a run-off with one of the two Bills. Since there is no faux 'war on women' in NYC, I guess Quinn thinks teal toenails will impress someone who does not care about crime, rent, taxes, or Quinn being known as "Bloomberg in a skirt" for siding with him on overturning term limits, which still has many voters steamed.
3) Both Giuliani and Bloomberg won every term as mayor by winning big in Queens and Staten Island.
Not sure what you think NYC "deserves", but Quinn would have to marry NYPD commissioner Ray Kelly to even have a chance at winning the mayor election. (as if!)
Might want to notice these names: Catsimitidis, Lhota, MacDonald, and Hidary. At least two of them will be on the final ballot.
NYC has a plethora of political parties.
de Blasio will be on the Working Family Party line, even if he loses to Quinn for the Democratic Party line.
Keep your eye on the voters of Cypress Hills, Queens.
ok, I know you do not care, but you spend way too much time thinking the NYT is a local newspaper. Most of us can not afford, or care to, read the NYT.

ReplyDeleteHa, I still skim this rag. I think that increasingly they target international antisemitic crowd, just like Neo-Nazi websites, but in a less honest way (neo-Nazis tend to display proudly their symbols)

Incidentally, I saw one similarly picture perfect lanky young Muslim in white garb giving orders to a small crowd of protesters on September 17 1911, right at the beginning of OWS.
