Pew Research Center, "Romney’s Strong Debate Performance Erases Obama's Lead": New York Times, "Pew Poll Shows Romney Advancing"

On Monday, The Pew Research Center announced that its most recent presidential election poll (http://www.people-press.org/files/legacy-pdf/10-8-12%20Political%20Release.pdf) showed that Romney's popularity had surged following his strong debate performance:

"Romney has drawn even with Obama in the presidential race among registered voters (46% to 46%) after trailing by nine points (42% to 51%) in September. Among likely voters, Romney holds a slight 49% to 45% edge over Obama. He trailed by eight points among likely voters last month."

How does The New York Times currently make reference to this news in a lead item on its online home page?:

The exact math is probably not as important as the broader conclusion: that the economy is in line with President Obama being a very modest favorite.
• Pew Poll Shows Romney Advancing

According to Pew, Romney is just "advancing"? Owing to the economy, Obama is a "very modest favorite"?

Ah, yes, America's resurgent economy . . . if you are gullible enough to believe that unemployment fell from 8.3 percent in July to 7.8 percent in September.

Cute.
